You know what I have realized in this industry? New doesn’t necessarily mean better, it just means new. And we get seduced all the time especially in the social media business. Just because something hasn’t happened yet, that therefore it must be better than what came before it and I don’t think that’s true. We have to focus on how to be social and worry less about doing social media.
Don’t fall into the trap of getting sucked into the new social media sites like pinterest, twitter, facebook because you will end up chasing your tail forever. You will NEVER be on top of it, trust me; I do this social media thing all day every day. You will never be on top of it. So if you’re doing social media for a company, some people probably are, figure out what kind of relationship you want to have between the company and its customers and prospects. Do that first! Then figure out how to measure it, and then figure out what sort of tools, channels and tactics make that a reality.
